Upcoming Disposition Meeting
Dear Neighbors,
I am thrilled to share some exciting news about a major development coming to our neighborhood! The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) has informed the ANC about the upcoming Disposition Meeting. This meeting is set to take place at 9 am Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Chevy Chase Community Center, and it marks a significant step forward in the development of a new library, community center, outdoor space, and potential housing. I’m beyond excited to see the ideas and plans that will be presented by the developers who responded to the Request for Proposals (RFP).
Meeting Details:
Date: Saturday, March 29, 2025
Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Location: Chevy Chase Community Center Auditorium 5601 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20015
Virtual Option: Please register in advance at the following link: https://forms.gle/pobMACFdak2rvfVeA
What to Expect at the Disposition Meeting:
Developer Presentations: Each developer will present their plans during the formal session. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about their vision for the community's future and see visual presentations of what the space at the Civic Core Site could look like.
Open House: Immediately following the presentations on Saturday, March 29, 2025, there will be an Open House where developers will be available to meet community members in various rooms on site. You’ll have the chance to ask questions about their presentations.
Extended Feedback Time: Thanks to the letter I drafted with Commissioners Gosselin and Gore on behalf of the ANC to DMPED, we have been granted an extended 60-day period to respond, rather than the usual 30 days. This provides us with more time to offer thoughtful and meaningful feedback about what we liked from the presentations by the respondents to the RFP. You can review the ANC's letter to DMPED here: 2025 02 20 DMPED Resolution Follow-up Letter. Lastly, I am committed to providing the community with advance notice of the ANC’s response to DMPED prior to the ANC meeting where we will discuss a potential resolution.
Hybrid Format: The meeting will be held in a hybrid format, meaning you can participate in-person or virtually.
DMPED is interested to know what the community likes about the RFP responses. In addition to attending the meeting, within 30 days after it, I plan to convene several focus groups with residents of our ANC to gather your feedback on the RFP responses. This will give you another opportunity to share what you liked from the respondents' presentations for the development at the Civic Core Site.
DMPED will be partnering with the community engagement consulting firm to facilitate the meeting. I would like to make sure the community is aware that this will be the first ever full day Disposition meeting. DMPED has listened to our concerns and is committed to meaningful engagement, and I would like to thank DMPED for their commitment to our request for more community engagement. If you're new to learning about this project, you can explore more details on the DMPED website dedicated to the development here: Chevy Chase Civic Site | dmped
As the Single Member District (SMD) Commissioner for the Civic Core Site, I’m very excited about the positive impact this project will have on our community and city. This is our chance to shape the future of the Civic Core Site in partnership with the city and create a space that benefits all generations of residents here now and to come.
I look forward to seeing you on March 29, 2025, and please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your SMD Commissioner if you have any questions about this upcoming meeting. If you don't know who your Commissioner is you can location them here: Locate Your SMD and ANC.
